‘Stray bullet’ suspect held in Marikina

A suspect in the stray bullet incident that wounded a 9-year-old girl in Marikina City on the night of Dec. 30 was arrested on Thursday.

Reynaldo Ruiz remained in detention on Friday after the police found him at his house on Jocson Street, Purok 1, Malanday—a few blocks away from the victim’s residence.

Ruiz did not yield a gun when apprehended, according to Senior Supt. Vincent Calanoga, the city police chief who led the arrest.

Calanoga said Ruiz was suspected of firing a gun of still unknown caliber whose bullet fell on the house of Francia Grace Aragon, hitting the girl on her chest around 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Aragon’s mother Primitiva, they were lying on their bed and watching television when her daughter was hit.

The victim was declared in stable condition on Friday and is set to undergo surgery to have the bullet extracted at Marikina Valley Medical Center today.

Canaloga said the suspect also faces complaints for threats and unjust vexation which were filed by three other residents who claimed that he had a habit of firing his gun indiscriminately.
