Fire hits commercial building in Iloilo heritage area
ILOILO CITY—Fire fighters are working to put out the fire that hit a commercial establishment in this city’s central business district.
Fire of still unknown origin broke out at 10 a.m. on the 2nd floor of Longwin Commercial on Aldeguer Street in Iloilo City.
The area is the center of commerce of Iloilo and is adjacent to the Iloilo Central Market, one of the biggest public markets in this city.
Chief Insp. Rio Maymay, Iloilo City precinct 1 chief, said the second floor of Longwin Commercial was used to store the products sold by the store such as slippers, shoes, appliances, among others.
Other commercial establishments including three banks located near the fire scene had been alerted for possible evacuation if the fire would not be controlled.
The area is planned to be revitalized because it houses the oldest commercial establishments in Iloilo and is considered as heritage site.
