DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Indigent patients at the Dr. Rizal D. Aportadera Mindanao Burn Unit of the Southern Philippines Medical Center here will again become this year’s beneficiary of the Gene Boyd R. Lumawag Cup, which is now on its fifth year.

The cycling event, dubbed “Padyak para kay Boyd,” is held annually to commemorate the life of the former Inquirer photo correspondent.

Lumawag was taking photos of the sunset at the Jolo pier on Nov. 12, 2004, when he was shot dead. The then 27-year-old photo journalist was working for the local news outfit, Mindanews.
