‘Nona’ weakens; storm signals raised in Bataan, Metro Manila
“Nona” (international name: Melor) weakened into a severe tropical storm as it moved slowly over the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday afternoon.
The storm packed maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 130 kph and was last spotted 70 kilometers southwest of Subic, Zambales, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Signal No. 2 was hoisted over Bataan, southern Zambales, Cavite, Batangas and Lubang Island.
Signal No. 1 was raised over Metro Manila, rest of Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac, Rizal, Laguna, Northern Occidental Mindoro and Northern Oriental Mindoro.
Nona moved at 7 kph northwest and would bring moderate to heavy rains within its 250 kilometer diameter.
Flashfloods and landslides are still possible over areas with storm signals.
