Local Government Code turns 20; LGUs eye amendments to law

MANILA, Philippines – Local government officials celebrated the 20th anniversary of the effectivity of the Local Government Code of 1991 or Republic Act no. 7160 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) convention hall in Pasay City Tuesday, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said.

Officials from the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines or (ULAP), The League of Cities and the League of Municipalities discussed the positive effects of the local government code, particularly the decentralization and devolution of LGUs, the report said.

The findings of their discussions and all recommendations will be submitted to President Benigno Aquino III who attended the two-day event to confer the “Gawad Pamana ng Lahi” to exemplary city and municipality leaders and administrators, it said.
