MMDA suspends number coding scheme Oct. 30 to Nov. 1

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has suspended the number coding scheme starting Friday in time for the observance of All Saints Day on Nov. 1.

In a statement on Wednesday, Emerson Carlos, MMDA officer in charge, said the lifting of the scheme for both public and private vehicles was done to allow people in Metro Manila–many of whom would go to the provinces —  “more mobility.”

Carlos said the resumption of the implementation of the scheme would be on Nov. 2, Monday, a regular working day.

He said, however, that provincial buses would be exempted from the number coding scheme on that day (Nov. 2) to allow travellers to get back to Metro Manila.

Carlos said directional signs and traffic personnel have been put in place in “critical areas” in Quezon City, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pasay, Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and San Juan.

These “critical areas” are roads leading to cemeteries and memorial parks, according to Carlos.  SFM
