‘Gathering of supporters’ for Santiago to be held at UP on Oct. 19

After announcing her presidential bid in 2016, a “gathering of supporters” for Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago will be held next week at the UP Bahay ng Alumni in Diliman, Quezon City, her staff member said Wednesday.

The event scheduled at 4 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2015, was posted on Santiago’s official Facebook account with an old photo of her and the words printed on it which read: “Miriam Is Coming.”

“I hope to see you all on Monday at the U.P. Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City! #MIRIAM2016,” Santiago wrote on her Facebook.

Santiago’s media staff member, Kim Arveen Patria, said next week’s event would be a “gathering of supporters” and some personalities were invited to attend but he refused to name them.

“She (Santiago) will deliver a speech,” Patria said over the phone.

Santiago told reporters in a press conference Tuesday that she will join the 2016 presidential race and that she would file her certificate of candidacy within this week.

While Santiago has yet to name her running mate in next year’s elections, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who already filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president, posted on Twitter a throwback picture of him and Santiago.
