Malacañang on Friday said Makati Mayor Junjun Binay should follow the decision of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales, who has just ordered his dismissal for grave misconduct and dishonesty.

“We respect the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman, being an independent office from the Executive,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte told media.

“In undertaking its constitutionally-mandated role, it is incumbent on all parties to abide by the decision and to avail of the legal remedies provided under law,” she added.

Morales, in an ambush interview, said Binay will be dismissed because of irregularities in the construction of the controversial Makati Parking Building.

The Ombudsman said Binay will be disqualified from holding public office. His retirement benefits will also be forfeited.

Both Binay and his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is the standard bearer of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance, have been accused of irregularities while serving as local officials in Makati City.

However, only the younger Binay was ordered suspended earlier this year.

The Ombudsman’s order came after a special panel from the Ombudsman investigated the accusations against Binay, his father, and 22 other Makati officials.
