The Eastern Police District is investigating the death of a construction worker in a building still under construction in Pasig City on Thursday morning after the management allegedly gave false statements to the police.

Pasig City Police head Senior Superintendent Jose Hidalgo Jr. said police will dig deeper on the cause of the accident after the building staff denied that 27-year-old Andro Guevarra died on the 10th floor of upscale The Royalton condominium in Capitol Commons in Barangay (village)  Kapitolyo.

A concrete slab fell on Guevarra and his co-worker RJ Gain while working at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The victims were brought to Rizal Medical Center but Guevarra was declared dead on arrival while Gain was in critical condition.

According to EPD director Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias, operatives were sent to the site to investigate after Guevarra’s brother Adonis reported the incident to the police.

However, the security personnel of The Royalton “kept the incident and gave false statement” to the policemen who responded to the accident.

Guevarra’s wife Mardia Cristina also lamented the alleged cover up of the accident.

The Royalton at Capitol Common is a property of Ortigas and Company while the contractor of the ongoing project is DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI).

The DMCI condoled with the family of Guevarra and assured that an internal investigation by its safety officer will be made.

“A DMCI representative talked to me but no one could explain how the incident exactly happened,” Mardia said.

Mardia was also told that it was only Guevarra and Gain who were on the floor during the accident.

“That’s very impossible because in every floor, they have a safety crew. I also don’t understand why it took them so long to rescue my husband,” she said. Julliane Love de Jesus/TVJ
