Drug angle seen in slay of Mandaluyong ex-cop
A former Mandaluyong City policeman was shot dead on Wednesday morning in what investigators suspect was a drug-related killing.
Ex-PO1 Carlito Reguiere, who used to be a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team before he was discharged for reasons not immediately known at press time, died after he was hit in the nape and leg. The shooting happened while he was driving his motorcycle, with a male back rider, on Ugnayan Road, Block 40, Welfareville Compound in Barangay (village) Addition Hills, Mandaluyong, around 1:45 a.m.
Mandaluyong police chief Senior Supt. Tyrone Masigon said they have yet to determine the motive for the killing of Reguiere, 37. But he noted that the area where the shooting happened was home to suspected drug dealers, leading investigators to believe that the killing was drug-related.
According to Masigon, residents in the area saw Reguiere and his bike passenger enter an alley. They later heard three gunshots and saw the victim sprawled at the other end of the alley. His companion was already missing and no one could tell the police where he had gone.–Jovic Yee
