GPS tracking leads to dead cabbie

The police are eyeing robbery in the death of a taxi driver whose body was found inside his cab in Malate, Manila, on Wednesday morning.

Arturo Amascual, 67, a widower and resident of Sta. Ana, Manila, was missing his wallet and cell phone. His hands and feet were bound with packaging tape while his mouth had also been taped shut.

There were no visible injuries on his body, leading the police to believe that he died of suffocation. Amascual was found by a coworker inside his white Ken taxi (UYE 361) on San Pascual Street corner Quirino Avenue, at 6:30 a.m. after he failed to return to their base and this prompted the cab’s owner to track Amascual using the GPS device installed in the vehicle, said PO2 Dennis Gumanac of the Manila Police District. Mariejo Ramos
