Signal no.2 up in Isabela, Northern Luzon as ‘Egay’ nears

Public storm warning Signal No. 2 was raised in Isabela and Northern Luzon as tropical storm Egay (Linfa) moved closer to Northern Luzon, the state weather bureau said Friday night.

Signal No. 1 was raised over the rest of Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan including Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Egay further intensified with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph.

The storm was last spotted 395 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, and moved west northwest at 10 kph.

Egay will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains within its 400 kilometer diameter.

Storm surges are also possible at coastal areas where Signal No. 2 was raised, Pagasa said.

Fishermen and operators of small seacraft were advised to avoid the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and the northern seaboard of Mindanao.

Residents in low-lying areas in Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Bicol region were also alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

The following are the forecast positions of Egay:

• 24 hour (Saturday evening): 140 km East Northeast of Casiguran, Auora.
  • 48 hour (Sunday evening): 60 km East Southeast of Aparri, Cagayan.
  • 72 hour (Monday evening): 170 km North of Aparri, Cagayan.
  • 96 hour (Tuesday evening): 155 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes.
  • 120 hour (Wednesday evening): 335 km North Northwest of Basco, Batanes.
