Del Rosario to take a leave to have ailing back treated

MANILA, Philippines–Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario will take a medical leave this month to undergo a procedure for his back ailment, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Assistant Secretary Charles Jose said on Monday.

Jose said Del Rosario will still be in President Aquino’s delegation to Canada and the United States which leaves this week.

He said Del Rosario, 75, will be going abroad “sometime this month” for the medical procedure which “has long been overdue.”

“He expects to be back at work in a few weeks’ time,” Jose said.

An acting secretary will be designated at the Department of Foreign Affairs while Del Rosario is on leave, he added.–Christine O. Avendaño
