Supreme Court beats House, Senate in approval ratings–poll
MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court beat the House of Representatives and the Senate in approval ratings, pollster Pulse Asia revealed on Thursday.
In a nationwide survey conducted from March 1-7, 2015, with 1,200 respondents, the Supreme Court gained a 45 percent approval rating, a six-point dip from its 51 percent rating in November.
The Senate also suffered a four-point dip in its approval rating, from November’s 42 percent to this month’s 38 percent.
The House of Representatives gained the lowest approval rating from the three government institutions with the 34 percent rating, a four-point dip from November’s 38 percent.
The Congress’ lower chamber also registered the highest disapproval rating (from November’s 18 percent to March’s 23 percent).
Among social classes and geographic areas, the Supreme Court trumped both chambers of Congress in its approval ratings.
The High Court, however, incurred a 12-point dip in its approval rating in the National Capital Region (from November’s 48 percent to this month’s 36 percent) and among respondents belonging in Class ABC (from 53 percent last November to 41 percent this March).
The same survey also revealed that the top five officials of the country—President Benigno Aquino III, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senate President Franklin Drilon, House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Serreno—failed to obtain majority approval and trust ratings.
Aquino incurred the biggest decrease in approval rating among officials included in the survey with 21 points. RC
