NPA releases 3 cops to Duterte in Surigao del Norte
DAVAO CITY – The communist New People’s Army (NPA) finally released the three police officers it held captive for more than three months.
The NPA turned over PO1 Jorie Amper, PO3 Democrito Polvorosa and PO1 Marichel Contemplo, at about 2 p.m. Thursday to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the hinterland of Surigao del Norte.
Duterte immediately transported the police officers to the Capitol grounds in Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte, where they were turned over to the top officials of the province.
The police officers were captured by NPA guerrillas in separate incidents in 2014. Amper was abducted in Malimono town on November 12 while Polvorosa and Contemplo were captured in Alegria on November 16.
