Roberto Ongpin faces Senate on BSP land deal
MANILA, Philippines — Businessman Roberto Ongpin faced the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee on Wednesday in connection with the alleged anomalous land deal between Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and Alphaland Corp.
Ongpin is the owner of Alphaland that acquired Silvertown Property Development Corp , which entered into a joint venture with BSP for the development of a one-hectare prime property in Makati City.
Former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado has claimed that Vice President Jejomar Binay, BSP’s longtime president, allegedly earned close to P200 million in kickbacks from said the deal.
Mercado was also present at the resumption of the hearing of the subcommittee along with other officials of Alphaland, and national executive board of the BSP, among others.
