/ 05:40 AM February 12, 2015

Today, Feb. 12, is the 100th birth anniversary of the late National Artist for Film and Theater Lamberto Avellana. Known as the “The Boy Wonder of Philippine Movies,” he was one of the first Filipino filmmakers to use the motion picture camera to establish a point-of-view, a move that revolutionized the techniques of film narration. Avellana is also the first filmmaker to have his film “Kalderong Pilak” shown at the Cannes International Film Festival. He was conferred the title of National Artist in 1976. He died on April 25, 1991. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
