Tree falls on 2 houses

STRONG winds caused a 20-foot mayana tree to fall down and destroy two houses in sitio Canumay in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City, at 11 p.m. last Tuesday.

The families of  Mercy Saladaga, 41,  and  Leonor Leorab, 36,  managed to escape after hearing creaks and seeing the tree about to collapse on their homes.

Strong winds caused by Typhoon Pedring may have caused the mayana tree to collapse, said Alfonso Manatad, barangay environmental officer.

After Typhoon Pedring made its exit, the state weather bureau Pagasa said a new typhoon is set to enter the Philippines today.

That means  more rains and heavy winds are expected, especially in the Luzon area.

Mactan weather analyst Ellah Kumahig said Cebu would continue to have  rainshowers and that the parts of the province are susceptible to floods and landslides.  Reporter Candeze R. Mongaya and Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
