Over 3,400 sea travellers still stranded

MANILA, Philippines—A total of 3,456 passengers remained stranded in various seaports in the country due to Typhoon Pedring, the latest data from the Philippine Coast Guard said.

PCG spokesman Lieutenant Commodore Algier Ricafrente said that 899 persons were still at the Calapan City Port in the Oriental Mindoro capital, 710 at the Matnog Port in Sorsogon, and 518 at the Tabaco Port in Albay.

Meanwhile, 39 vessels and seven motor boats are still barred from travelling.

Ricafrente said that operations would resume only when storm signals were lifted from the ship’s point of origin, route and destination.

“And when the coast is clear,” he said.
