NDRRMC: ‘Amang’ damage at P30 million

MANILA, Philippines—Tropical Storm “Amang” (Mekkhala) caused P30 million worth of damage in its aftermath, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Wednesday.

Amang dumped rains in Eastern Visayas and parts of Luzon including Metro Manila over the weekend during the visit of Pope Francis in Leyte and his concluding Mass at Luneta Park in Manila.

The total damage of P30,344,570.49 worth of damage to agriculture was reported in the provinces of Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar.

The storm left two dead in its aftermath and affected 25,201 families or 106,808 persons in Bicol, Central and Eastern Visayas. There are still 105 families or 420 persons sheltered in evacuation center.

Amang also left 538 houses damaged—48 totally destroyed and 490 partially damaged.

The storm weakened into a low-pressure area on Monday and dissipated on Tuesday.
