LRT, MRT to resume operations Wednesday—spokesman

MANILA, Philippines – Operations of the Light Rail Transit 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit 3 will resume Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the MRT 3 and Light Rail Transit Authority said.

There was no chance of resuming operations of the three train systems Tuesday evening as there was no “sufficient power supply for the entire lengths of LRT 1 and 2, and MRT3,” said lawyer Hernando Cabrera.

And to ensure that the trains were safe, Cabrera said that there was also a “need to conduct proper safety check and test runs before we can operate.”

He said they were expected to resume their regular trips Wednesday once Meralco restores “full and sufficient power to [their] systems tonight.”

Power shortage Tuesday morning due to Typhoon “Pedring” (international codename: Nesat) forced a halt to the LRT 1 and 2, and MRT 3 operations, causing inconvenience to commuters.
