Tom: Transfer Road Revo to SRP, less hassle to public

MOVE  the Road Revolution activity to  the South Road Properties (SRP) and hold it at night.

Rep. Tomas Osmeña (Cebu City south district) gave this suggestion, saying that if organizers cause a  major inconvenience to  the riding public and motorists this would defeat the purpose the activity.

“It’s good to try anything but if it does not work, don’t do it again,” he said.

Osmeña said that in Bogota, Columbia, the mayor also had a program where a portion of the roads were closed for pedestrians but it was well supported there because  of the  cold weather.

“Here it is so hot, dusty and humid. You cant do the same thing here,” he said of Cebu City.

Osmeña also said the event has to have a “village feel” to attract people the way his project of mountning the  longest barbecue grill or row of stalls  in Osmeña Boulevard several  years ago when he was the mayor  landed in the Guinness World Record and drew people from all walks of life.

Osmeña said some people are “hard-headed” and  refuse to learn from the inconvenience their activities have caused  Cebuanos.

“I don’t care what they say but people don’t like to walk under the heat of the sun. If not at the expense of others, okay ra. But if you force others to join, then to each his own,” he said.

Osmeña said that if proponents of the Road Revolution plan another event, they should do it at the coastside SRP where it would cause less inconvenience or stage it at night.

“One of the attractions of tourism is best described as the village feel,” he said.

With this in mind, Osmeña said that he is planning several activities at   SRP’s Kawit Island similar to  Singapore’s night market. /Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
