Aunt seeks assistance for Parañaque man’s chemo

Christopher Bataller, 40, a leukemia sufferer residing in Parañaque City, was originally scheduled to undergo six to eight chemotherapy cycles to kill the cancer cells. They were later reduced to four thanks to the “good” results of the first therapy on Oct. 27 at Philippine General Hospital.

“The attending physicians said it was due to the positive reaction of his body to the procedure,” said his aunt, Merle Sacil. “He went bald, developed rashes and had high fever, but they were said to be normal reactions; otherwise, he was doing fine.”

Bataller had to be confined at the hospital for more than a month so doctors could closely monitor his condition, she added.

Currently staying at Sacil’s residence at BF Homes, Battaler and his wife Yolanda, a janitress, have been struggling to raise three young children. His parents are farmers in Albay province.

Sacil is appealing to Inquirer readers for help in raising funds for her nephew’s next three chemotherapy cycles, which she said would cost P275,000. “My ultimate wish is to see him getting well. I don’t know but I just have this feeling that it will happen.’’
