Work at QC justice hall suspended as militants demand release of political prisoners

MANILA, Philippines—Court hearings and office work at the Quezon City Hall of Justice were suspended Tuesday, Radyo Inquirer 990AM reported.

Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Fernado Sagun ordered the suspension after militants stormed the city hall of justice, the report said.

Early Tuesday, protesters trooped to the hall of justice to demand the release of political prisoners including alleged Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) leader Benito Tiamzon and his wife Wilma.

The protesters were able to enter the premises of the hall of justice and picketed there.

Police from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) are now inspecting the area to ensure the safety of the employees.

The Tiamzons, who were scheduled to attend a court hearing Tuesday, were arrested together with five other suspected communists in Cebu in March.
