Binay camp confirms graft raps discussed in Aquino-Binay meeting
MANILA, Philippines–The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday said the corruption allegations against him cropped up in his conversation with President Aquino last week after the Chief Executive asked about him and his family.
“The Vice President respects the private nature of the conversation. It was after all a meeting between friends,” Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, Binay’s spokesman for political concerns, said in a statement.
Remulla said the President had “asked about (Binay’s) family and the Vice President replied that the family was hurting from all the lies and baseless accusations, especially [against his] wife.”
“At this point, the President asked how he can help or ‘paano ako makakatulong?’” he said.
“It was in this context that the Senate was mentioned in the conversation,” Remulla said.
