PH Navy dispatches teams to rescue flood-stricken Metro Manila, Cavite residents

MANILA, Philippines—Augmenting the rescue efforts in Metro Manila and Cavite, the Philippine Navy has dispatched teams to save residents in the affected areas where Tropical Storm “Mario” laid some flooding.

Lieutenant Commander Marineth Domingo, Philippine Navy Public Affairs Office Chief, said Disaster Response and Rescue Teams based in Metro Manila and Cavite were dispatched.

She added that the Philippine Navy sent out 13 officers together with 103 personnel, six reservists and two civilian volunteers were onboard six M-35 trucks, three amphibian trucks, four trailers carrying disaster response and rescue equipment, one Ligher, Amphibious Resupply Cargo Vehicle and one dehaviland.

“Coordination was made with the local government units and identified the displaced areas that needed assistance,” Domingo said.

As of 10:30 p.m. Friday, a total of 935 people were rescued in Metro Manila and Cavite where flooding was at its highest.

Of the 935 who were rescued, 838 were from Navotas, Barangay Salapan, San Juan City and Quezon City with the Naval Reserve Command National Region conducting the rescue operations.

Domingo said that the 97 remaining people who were rescued were from Rosario, Noveleta and Kawit with Fleet-Marine Ready Force taking control of the situation.
