Today, Aug. 26, is the 139th birth anniversary of the Father of Philippine Journalism, Alejandro Roces Sr. Born in Manila in 1875, Roces was the first Filipino publisher to regard newspaper publishing as a serious business. He proved he was ahead of his time when in 1917, he gave international news agencies access to his newspapers. Under his management, the Taliba, La Vanguardia and Tribune because the biggest newspapers in the whole archipelago. Roces died in 1943.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
