Senate to abide by Sandigan order on Enrile suspension
MANILA, President — The Senate will abide by the decision of the Sandiganbayan, upholding its suspension order against detained Senator Juan Ponce-Enrile, Senate President Franklin Drilon said on Friday.
“The Senate will abide by the Sandiganbayan’s decision to uphold the suspension of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile with finality, and we will implement it as soon as we receive the official copy of the suspension order,” Drilon said in a statement.
The Senate leader issued the statement after the anti-graft court rejected Enrile’s appeal to lift the 90-day prevention suspension order.
Enrile has been detained at Camp Crame in Quezon City on plunder and graft charges over the pork barrel scam.
Two more senators — Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr — who are detained at Camp Crame, were also ordered suspended by the Sandiganbayan on the same charges.
