Former Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. was assassinated on the tarmac of Manila International Airport on Aug. 21, 1983. His 11-hour funeral march 10 days later from Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City to Manila Memorial Park, Parañaque, is considered one of the longest in Philippine history. Ninoy Aquino Day is marked every Aug. 21 under Republic Act No. 9256 signed by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Feb. 25, 2004. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
