Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on Wednesday led the turnover of over 40 electric personal transporters to the Manila Police District to be used primarily for patrolling the city’s tourist spots in Ermita as well as the high traffic districts of Binondo and Divisoria.

The four-wheel vehicles made up a batch donated to the city government by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) upon Estrada’s request.

An earlier batch, which consisted of 10 units donated by Westwood City Ventures and Solutions Inc., was formally received by the MPD in May.

“These vehicles are very important [tools] for police visibility, which deter criminal activities,” said the mayor, who explained that he had to seek Pagcor’s assistance for such projects since he inherited the city government’s “bankruptcy’’ when he took over last year. Fran Katigbak
