/ 02:43 AM July 06, 2014

Navotas City hopes to beef up its defenses against perennial flooding with the construction of two additional pumping stations.

City hall on Friday said Mayor John Rey Tiangco had approved the release of funds for the new projects as well as for the purchase of other equipment for emergency response.

The new pumping stations will be built in Barangay San Jose and Navotas-East, according to city public information officer Jayne Banayad.

The money will be drawn from savings from last year’s Quick Response Fund, she added.

The new projects will bring to 41 the total number of flood-control pumps installed around the city, including those intended to direct rainwater to Malabon-Navotas River. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
