Threatened by pusher, rookie QC cop slain

A rookie member of the Quezon City Police District, who had reportedly received death threats after putting a suspected drug pusher behind bars, was shot dead Thursday night near his house in Barangay Bahay Toro, also in Quezon City.  The attack on PO1 Khrissan Abbey Nad, 29, also wounded his 21-year-old nephew, John Alfred Alipio. The two men had just arrived in their neighborhood on a motorcycle, after Nad bought dinner for the family, when ambushed around 6:15 p.m. near a basketball court in Sitio Militar.  A lone gunman wielding a 9-mm pistol shot them from behind at close range, hitting Nad in the head and Alipio in the back.  The shooter escaped with a cohort on a motorbike. The case investigator, PO2 Jogene Hernandez, said Nad had received death threats from a suspected drug pusher whom he earlier arrested and put behind bars. The drug suspect’s name and the status of the case were not immediately available. Nad reported to the QCPD’s Talipapa station and was not on duty at the time. Maid falls for P4M scam, says her QC employer

A businesswoman in Quezon City lost more than P4 million in cash and jewelry to a con artist who fooled her househelp into handing over the valuables Thursday afternoon.  In a report to the police, Virginia Wee, a resident of Barangay Mariana, said her helper Joan Magsayo got a call from a woman who mimicked Wee’s voice and made Magsayo believe that her employer had a vehicular mishap and in dire need of cash to pay the other driver.  Magsayo then met a woman— who claimed she was sent by Wee— around 1:40 p.m. at a convenience store at the corner of Edsa and Quezon Avenue, and handed over the money and valuables she took from the master bedroom.  Before leaving, the woman told Magsayo to wait for Wee and that they would be going home together.  Magsayo grew impatient after waiting for an hour and again called the woman—who instructed her to go home and get some more money.  Upon arrival, the maid learned of the scam from Wee herself, according to PO2 Julius Balbuena.  Wee has not filed charges against Magsayo as of Friday.
