Today, June 27, is the 160th birth anniversary of the Father of Filipino Opera, Ladislao Bonus. Born in Pandacan, Manila, in 1854, he was a known composer, conductor and teacher. Among his known works were “Recuerdos a la Patria” with lyrics by Dr. Jose Rizal; “Pasadoble Hanoi” and “Triumphal March” which he composed for the First Philippine Assembly. Bonus died on March 28, 1908 at the age of 53. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
