One dead as 2 trucks collide in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines–The driver of a dump truck died early Tuesday after the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a 10-wheeler truck along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.

The driver, whom a radio report identified as Wilfredo Reyes, 51, was stuck for hours behind the steering wheel after his truck hit the 10-wheeler truck it was tailing along Blue Ridge Subdivision, John Francisco of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Metrobase told INQUIRER.net.

Francisco said the dump truck came from the tunnel on the northbound lane of Katipunan Avenue from Libis.

Reyes, of Bagumbayan, Laguna, was brought to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City where he was declared dead on arrival.

Reyes’ companion, Carlos Avensenia, 17, also sustained injuries.

The radio report added that the dump truck, which came from Laguna, was loaded with charcoal that was supposed to be transported to Navotas City.
