PH to have cloudy skies, scattered rain

MANILA, Philippines—Overcast skies and scattered afternoon rains will prevail over most parts of the country, with no tropical cyclone in sight, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

The ridge of a high pressure area is extending over Northern and Central Luzon, bringing general cloudiness to those regions, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

On the other hand, warm and moist easterly winds from the Pacific Ocean are affecting the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, it said in an advisory.

“The entire archipelago will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,” Pagasa said.

Forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said daily temperatures would continue to grow warmer in the next few weeks.

The maximum temperature recorded in Metro Manila on Saturday was 34.7 degrees Celsius at 1:50 p.m., just a notch below the 35.7 degrees recorded on Friday at the Science Garden in Quezon City. That was the highest so far this year.

Light to moderate winds from the east to the southeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and from the east over the rest of the country, Pagasa said.

Coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, it added.
