CIDG: No raid at Hyatt Hotel
MANILA, Philippines—The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified Thursday that Monday’s operation that led to the busting of an alleged Korean prostitution ring occurred at the Marina Residential Suites and not at the neighboring Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila as it previously said.
Superintendent Emma M. Libunao, CIDG Women and Children Protection Division chief, said the “misconception” occurred because of the proximity of the two hotels which, she noted, shared a “common wall.”
She also corrected a CIDG press statement that Hyatt employees were arrested in the raid or that the CIDG would press charges against Hyatt, saying it had meant employees and management of Marina.
On Tuesday, the CIDG released a statement on the conduct of two raids, which led to the dismantling of a Manila-based escort service syndicate allegedly operated by a Korean and his Filipino girlfriend at the “Hyatt Manila (Marina) Residential Suite at 1588 M. H. del Pilar St., Pedro Gil, Manila.”
In subsequent references, it identified the hotel as “Hyatt.”
According to Hyatt, Marina Residential Suites is an “independent entity with condominium units privately owned, located in the same complex as Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.”
“Please be advised that there was no such activity in any area under the jurisdiction of Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila. There were no arrest of any employee or security personnel of Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila,” it said.
