Taguig dengue cases in 2013 dropped by half

MANILA, Philippines — The number of dengue cases in Taguig dropped by half in 2013 compared to the previous year, according to the year-end report of the city health office.

The number of dengue cases fell to 690 in 2013 from 1,385 in 2012, the Taguig information office said in a statement on Thursday.

The city also tallied one dengue-related death in 2013 from seven cases in 2012, the report added.

Barangay (village) Western Bicutan recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 128 people affected, while Barangay Ligid recorded the lowest with a lone patient.

Most of the patients were aged five years old and above, the report said.

The month of September recorded the most number of dengue cases at 197, it added.

City health officer-in-charge Dr. Isaias Ramos attributed the decrease to misting, declogging and clean-up drives as well as information campaigns.
