CCSC to promote street games
After the successful launch of its monthly publication for sports science this year, the Cebu City Sports Commission’s (CCSC) pet project for 2014 aims to take the Cebuano sports community back to old school.
This after, CCSC chairman Edward Hayco announced that in order to introduce kids to sports at a very young age, he and the CCSC will be promoting Filipino traditional games.
This way, Hayco hopes the children will learn how to be competitive, appreciate native games and prepare them for a future in athletics.
“We will create an awareness in the schools and barangays in Cebu city that we need to go back to basics, meaning we will be implementing a program that will involve street games that most children play before the advent of technology,” Hayco said.
CCSC’s 2013 monthly sports publication project managed to come out with several issues regarding sports science which were distributed to public schools and barangays of Cebu City.
It’s main aim is to add to the knowledge of coaches and sports coordinators regarding the latest innovations in their sport and to update them on the latest techniques regarding sports conditioning and training which CCSC compiled from various sports science books and articles.

Street games like patintero, takyan (sipa), chinese garter, luksong baka and other traditional Filipino games will be included in the CCSC sports program. The CCSC will also continue with its annual sports clinic that features mainstream sports.
Hayco said that this project is more relevant during these times where technology has slowly taken away a child’s physical activities such as playing outdoors and engaging in street games.
Hayco said he and the designated coaches of the program will visit Cebu City public schools and barangays to initiate its integration.
