MRT, LRT offer free rides on Rizal Day

MANILA, Philippines – Commuters are in for a treat on Rizal Day with both the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines offering free rides.

In commemoration of Jose Rizal’s life, all MRT and LRT stations will offer free rides on December 30, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) said.

Several events have been organized by the NHCP and other concerned agency on Rizal Day, including the unveiling of the Rizal Monument marker at the Rizal Park in Manila at 7 a.m., which will be attended by President Benigno Aquino III.

Similar commemorative rites will be held simultaneously at the Rizal Shrines in Calamba City, Laguna and in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte. Another ceremony will be held at the Rizal Monument at the Quezon City Hall at 9 a.m.
