Both blind, mom and son killed in Manila fire

MANILA, Philippines–An elderly woman and her son, both of them blind, were killed in a fire that hit a residential area in Malate, Manila, on Christmas Eve.

Manila arson investigator, Chief Inspector Ramon Geronimo, identified the victims as Rosario Garcia, 95, and Rodolfo Castro, 62, of1254 Arellano Avenue, Singalong.

About 100 families were estimated to have been affected by the fire that gutted rows of  houses in Barangays (villages) 745 and 746 Zone 81.

The fire, which started at 12:54 a.m. Tuesday, reached the fifth alarm before it was put out at 4:30 a.m.

Arson investigators have not yet  determined the cause of the fire.
