14 killed in Brazil bus crash near Sao Paulo
SAO PAULO – At least 14 people have died in a bus crash on a highway near Sao Paulo. Brazilian police said.
It was not clear what caused the crash, but no other vehicles were involved. The bus carrying at least 50 people left the southern city of Curitiba and was en route to Rio de Janeiro when it veered off the road around 2 a.m. Sunday.
It rolled and came to a stop about 50 yards (meters) down an embankment.
Police didn’t have an estimate on how many people were injured. But local news reports citing unnamed hospital officials put the number of those hurt at more than 20, most in stable condition.
The driver survived. Police say he showed no signs of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
