Monsoon, low pressure area bring cloudy skies across PH

MANILA, Philippines — Expect overcast skies in most parts of the country due to the northeast monsoon affecting Northern Luzon, and the trough of a low-pressure area  prevailing over Mindanao, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeast monsoon, locally known as “hanging amihan,” or cold winds blowing in from Siberia, remained the dominant weather system in Luzon.

This will bring clouds and light rains over the Cagayan, Cordillera and Ilocos regions, it said.

On the other hand, the trough or extension of a low pressure area affecting Mindanao would bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers over the regions of Caraga and Eastern Visayas, Pagasa said.

“Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms,” it added.

Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast would prevail over Luzon and coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas, it said.
