Former Cebu City mayor to lead Cepca induction
FORMER Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia will induct the new set of officers of the Cebu Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) this Dec. 15 at Lola Soling’s Barkadas Grill and Restobar in Casuntingan, Mandaue City.
The induction ceremony will be held alongside the Cepca tourney of champions, where the 12 monthly champions for this year will battle it out in their quest to become the champion of champions.
A separate tournament for those who didn’t win a monthly championship title will also be held.
Set to be inducted as 2014 Cepca officers are president Jerry Maratas, vice president (external) Marvyne Guardiana, vp (internal) Dante Arguelles, secretary Jun Olis, treasurer Jun Kidlat, auditor Ruel Hortellano, PRO Boy Pestano and board members Mandy Baria and Jojo Muralla.
Olis, also Cepca’s tournament organizer, announced that aside from the year-ending tourney, the event will also serve as the group’s Christmas party.
Romulo Pialan, a retired Electronics Engineer who now teaches chess via the internet, will lead the cast of the qualifiers, who made their Monthly Qualifying tilt at the Handuraw Pizza in Gorordo, in the battle of the champions alongside Jimmy Ty, Jr., lawyer Jong Melendez, Percival Fiel, Rey Flores, Freddie Casagan, Maggie Dionson, Manny Abucay, Jun Kidlat, Peterson Sia, Harrison Chua, Domy Pialan and NM Arnold Cadiz. /Correspondent JADE S.
