A man who allegedly used bogus connections to government offices to dupe restaurants ended up behind bars in Quezon City on Friday.

Bryan Lopez, 28, was arrested for posing as an employee of the National Youth Commission (NYC) and the office of Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and for making these false claims to order food from restaurants, police said.

In an earlier complaint, NYC executive director Sherwin Taay said his office received a call on Nov. 26 from Yehey canteen at Victory Mall, Caloocan City, inquiring if the commission had an employee named Marlon Angara who had placed an order for 1,000 packed meals.

The man also claimed to be a member of Angara’s staff, Taay said. On Friday, the commission got another call, this time from a Kitaro branch on Timog Avenue, checking if it had authorized a Marlon Angara to order food for the NYC.

Taay finally reported the racket to the QCPD’s Kamuning station, which set up a trap at Kitaro that finally revealed the suspect to be Lopez.   SPO1 John Sales said Lopez, a native of Aurora province, also yielded several fake IDs when arrested and would be charged with swindling in the City Prosecutor’s Office.—Julie M.
