Guidelines out for holiday pay on All Saints’ Day

MANILA, Philippines — The “no work, no pay” policy applies for All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 2, according to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, who reminded employers to strictly adhere to holiday pay rules and core labor standards for their workers.
“The law provides that during non-working days or special holidays, the no work, no pay principle shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special day,” said Baldoz.
Malacañang has declared Nov. 1 and 2 as special non-working days to give Filipinos the chance to remember and honor their departed family members and loved ones.
Employees who will render work on these days are entitled to receive an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of duty.
Baldoz said that if the employee worked in excess of eight hours, he/she should be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on that day.
“If the employee worked during a special day that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 50 percent of his/her daily rate on the first eight hours of work,” she said.
Meanwhile, if the employee worked in excess of eight hours during a special day falling on his/her rest day, he/she would have to be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on that day.
