Philta juniors championships starts today

A TOTAL of 150 junior tennis players coming from all over the country will be seeing action today when the 1st leg of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) – Philippine Lawn Tennis Association’s (Philta) Junior Tennis Championships unfolds at the Laray tennis court in sitio Laray, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

Tournament director and organizer Juanito Cansino Jr. of Mindanao relayed to Cebu Daily News the names of the darkhorses in the different age group divisions in the Group 2 Philta-sanctioned event being supported by Slazenger, the competition’s official ball.

Leading the cast of participants in the tournament, which will feature a total of 14 age group categories in the unisex, boys and girls divisions, are Cebu City’s top bets in the 16-Under Girls category Jana Pages and Zethley Mae Alferez, who will be challenged by Manila’s stalwarts Ma. Dominique Ong and Erica Manduriao.

In the 16-Under boys, the top bets are Cebu’s John Godfrey Seno and Davao City’s Christian Fel Lopez while the cast of players in the 14-Under Boys will be spearheaded by Cebu City’s Jace Christian Unto, Manuel Francis Navales and John Clyde Laquio and Manila’s Manuel Balce III.  /Correspondent JADE S.
