The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is celebrated every Oct. 17. In a report released in April, the National Statistical Coordination Board said poverty incidence in the country stood at 27.9 percent in the first semester of 2012, a level practically unchanged from the same period in 2009 (28.6 percent) and 2006 (28.8 percent).
