2 children, lola survive collapse of building

TWO children and their 60-year-old grandmother were rescued after the Budget Builders building along the N. Bacalso Avenue in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City collapsed during the earthquake.

A 2-year-old boy did not suffer injuries while his 8-month-old sister was taken to the Chong Hua Hospital for medical attention.

Their grandmother, Esperanza Lumakang, was also brought to the hospital for minor injuries with a female yaya in her 30s named “Cecilia”.

Firemen and paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) immediately responded.

Jouie Arrabes, 50, who was standing outside told Cebu Daily News she saw the structure collapse.

“Sus Ginoo ko, dali ra jud kaayo. Pagkakita nako ni syagit ko kay kahibalo ko nga naay mga taw labi na mga bata sa sulod nga natumbahan,” she said.

(It happened so fast. I shouted when I saw it give way because I knew there were people inside including children.)

The children’s parents are in China for a business trip. They informed their HR officer Melvin dela Torre that they were coming home immediately.
