Tabal wins again; Lopez beats Missous
FRESH FROM a successful run in Panglao Island, Bohol, Southwestern University’s (SWU) Mary Joy Tabal returned to Cebu with a bang as she won the 12-kilometer race of the World Vision Run yesterday at the Parkmall in Mandaue City.
Mendel Lopez was also crowned champion as he topped the men’s side of the race, dubbed “A Run to Stop Tuberculosis.”
Tabal, who won the 2nd Bohol-Sandugo Panglao Island Half Marathon, clocked 49 minutes and 42 seconds to rule the women’s run. Lopez had a time of 40 minutes and 18 seconds, beating Kenyan Abraham Missous for the men’s title.
Missous finished in 40 minutes and 22 seconds to place second followed by Davao’s Joebert Carolino in third place with a time of 45 minutes and 51 seconds.
Madelyn Carter finished second in the distaff side with a time of 54 minutes and 46 seconds while Christine Lagnason rounded off the top three with a time of 56 minutes and 19 seconds.
Tabal’s trainer John Philip Dueñas lorded the 6k category with a time of 21 minutes and 30 seconds. Cristy Sevellino-Tutor dominated the 6k distaff side with a time of 26 minutes and 25 seconds.
