/ 05:46 AM October 11, 2013

Quezon City was established on Oct. 12, 1939, through Commonwealth Act No. 502 with President Manuel L. Quezon acting as the city’s first chief executive. A number of barrios that once belonged to Rizal, Caloocan, San Juan, Marikina, Pasig and Mandaluyong were integrated into the newly created city, which became the biggest local government unit in Metro Manila. On Nov. 10, 1939, Quezon appointed Tomas Morato as city mayor.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
